Medicine Rocks State Park 50th Anniversary
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks in cooperation with the Ekalaka Chamber of Commerce and Custer Country are planning a formal celebration to recognize the 50th anniversary of Medicine Rocks State Park at Noon on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the park.
Joe Maurier, FWP State Park Administrator from Helena, Jim Schaefer, Executive Director of Custer Country, Gilbert Whitedirt a Northern Cheyenne elder and Conrad Fisher, Northern Cheyenne Tribal Historic Preservation Officer will make presentations at the ceremony.
A guest speaker, Arch Ellwein will present a living history of Theodore Roosevelt. This is the 100th Anniversary of the administration of Theodore Roosevelt. During the late 1800’s Theodore Roosevelt camped at Medicine Rocks and commented… “All together it was as fantastically beautiful a place as I have even seen”. The presentation is free and open to the public.
A free barbecue lunch following the presentations will be provided to the public. Lee Moore, of Baker Metal and Recycling is donating a roasted pig.
Please remember to bring lawn chairs, water, sunscreen and insect repellent for your comfort.
